Bayero University

Sahara Reporters is reporting that a lecturer at the Bayero University in Kano state Saminu Aliyu Kiri has been kidnapped by unknown people. It reports that Kiri was kidnapped alongside two other people riding in the car.

Kiri, a member of the computer science department, was kidnapped while on his way back from supervising a Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme, popularly known as SIWES believed to be somewhere in Shaki, Oyo state.

It quotes an official from the university, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, as confirming the kidnap. Sahara Reporters quoted sources as saying that at press time Kiri’s whereabouts were unknown and the kidnappers were yet to make any demands.

We recall that Laurentia Laraba Mallam, the minister of the environment during the government of Goodluck Jonathan, and her 73-year-old husband Pius Mallam were just recently freed from their abductors.

The money-thirsty kidnappers released the couple after their relatives paid a ransom after a series of negotiations.
