Abuja airport runway finally completed, under inspection



- The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja was recently shut down for the repair of its runway

- The Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that the runway construction is complete


The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja runway is complete and will be reopened on April 19.



This means that travelers would no longer forced to travel through the Kaduna airport as it has been recently with the closure of the Abuja airport runway.

The runway, according to the managing director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Engr Saleh Dunoma.

Dunoma said the airport runway is currently being inspected by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).



Daily Trust quotes him as saying the authority had given the NCAA two days (Sunday and Monday) to inspect it and probably make some observations which would be corrected before the airport reopens on April 19.





Dunoma, who spoke while inspecting the final lap of work, said: “We will be ready by Monday the April 17 but we are leaving the remaining two days for Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), because they have to certify the airport that what we have done is in accordance with their standards.




“If they do that, we will bring in the traffic. But if they do not, we have the opportunity of making corrections with the two days we have saved.”





According to him, the reopening of the airport by April 19 as promised by the federal government is certain.
