Soldiers fighting Boko Haram terrorists in the north east have written an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari asking to be allowed to return home.
In the letter exclusively sent to NAIJ.com, the soldiers lamented that they have been away from their family for more than three years which is more than the period they should spend.
They called on the leadership of the army to look into this problem as their family have been abandoned for more than three years.
Read the letter below:
"Letter to Mr President, Senate, House of Representatives, CDS and chief of army staff Lt Gen T Y Buratai and the general public
"We the entire soldiers in the North East (NE) are using this medium to remind and inform you about our over stayed in the theatre of NE which have caused enough damage to our family and children that we left behind. Our wives have become other man's wife. Barack boys have gained access and impregnated our young girls. We spent over 3 years in the bush without adequate provision yet we obey
"Our little children could not recognize us when we go on pass twice in a year (10 or 14 days each pass) we have to use biscuit to bring them closer honestly speaking it melt me down when my son called me uncle the last time i went home on pass it is not their fault but the ARMY how can you keep a man away from his family for over 2 years (of which no General can do) some of us have even spent 4 years in the NE some 3 years and the least is 2 years some soldiers in the Barracks are even praying that there should be no rotation so that they will not come and pay their own due and yet receiving salary
Haba are we the only combatant soldiers in the Nigerian Army other forces rotate their men every six months even police force is 3 month but as for the army you only know when you are coming to Maiduguri but you can never know when you are going back to see your family, our leaders always say no man power (especially the infantry corps) yet soldiers goes to mission yet we recruit every year some BN were even deceived with signal of going to Liberia before they were diverted to North East and since that time Mr President they are still in the NE
(Body no be fire wood) Please rotate us before it is too late lets go back to our family and make things right or are you waiting for the time that we would refuse order so that you can charge and dismissed us? Our children are suffering our wife's are crying bring back our husband.
To keep a man away from his family for 3 years is indeed inhuman and i don't think the Nigerian Army has any excuse of not rotating their troops after spending 1 year in any operations either home or away. Of what shall it profit a man who work all day because of his family and yet loses them to another man because of his negligence Nigerians should help cry out loud to Mr President we need to back home There are many soldiers in the barrack, let the army rotate us. Our wife's are crying: “BRING BACK OUR HUSBAND.”
