Arsenal striker, Alexis Sanchez, has become Chile’s all-time leading goalscorer with his early opener in their group clash against Germany at the ongoing Confederations Cup in Russia.
The 28-year old scuffed home a left-footed effort from close range only 6 minutes into the game, to move ahead of Marcelo Salas to top his country’s charts on 38 goals.
World Cup holders Germany struggled during the opening period but drew level just before the break, after Lars Stindl scored from close range in a counterattack.
The result left both teams with four points each in Group B, while Australia and Cameroon are on a point each after also playing a 1-1 draw earlier Thursday in St. Petersburg.
Sanchez made his international debut in 2016, and the game against Germany was his 111th appearance for the South American giants.
Having had two Copa America victories, the Arsenal forward will be hoping to add the Confederations Cup to his name, as the Chileans look to make it past the semifinals in Russia.
