The countdown has begun in earnest, one more month and the yellow ties will be out, the yellow ticker will be working overtime on Sky Sports and football fans up and down the country will be avidly waiting news from their team.
A month from now and it will be transfer deadline day, a day in which Liverpool fans will be hoping hasn’t come too soon.
We’ve known pretty much all summer who Liverpool want to bring to Anfield. Naby Keita and Virgil Van Dijk are Jurgen Klopp’s two top targets, with much of the transfer talk centering around the duo this year, writes the Liverpool Echo.
But it’s always nice for the rumour mill to welcome a new face, with French reports claiming Liverpool are now in the hunt for Arsenal target Thomas Lemar.
Naby Deco Keita of Leipzig jubilates after scoring the first goal during the Bundesliga match between RB Leipzig and SV Werder Bremen at Red Bull Arena on October 23, 2016 The Monaco winger has been Arsene Wenger’s top transfer target this summer, but the Gunners boss has so far failed to persuade the French champions to sell the winger. French publication Le10Sport reckon Lemar has emerged as a possible signing for Liverpool – but any deal would depend on a lot of variables.
Firstly, it’s claimed that the Reds are interested in Lemar as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho. Then the Reds have to beat off competition from Arsenal. And then there’s the small matter of persuading Monaco to sell – so far something Arsenal have found very difficult. Besides, if there’s any justice in the world Coutinho will stay at Anfield and all will be okay.
