Rooney to snub man united's 10m golden goodbye wants 30m instead

Wayne Rooney & Man United

Where will Wayne Rooney be at the start of next season? England and Man United’s all-time leading goalscorer is under contract at Old Trafford for another season, while Rooney also has an option to remain at the Theare of Dreams until 2019. Whether that transpires is debatable. Last season Jose Mourinho phased Rooney out of his first team at United, and there’s little reason to believe Rooney will be able to get himself back in the first team picture next season.

Rumours have linked to forward with possible summer moves to Everton, Stoke and West Ham, but right now that gossip feels like idle chatter.

Rooney’s big problem

The issue holding up Rooney’s next career choice is money. He’s on 300,000 pounds a week at Old Trafford, while it’s obvious no Premier League club will be willing to offer the 31-year-old such a pay-packet. That’s leading Rooney toward a battle with Man United as they try and get him out the club. The Sun report: Rooney is ready for a £30 million war with Manchester United. The striker, 31, has a year left on his deal but can trigger a further 12-month option on his £300,000-a-week salary. Old Trafford chiefs plan a golden goodbye of around £10m — but Rooney knows he can TRIPLE that if he stays. Believing that Rooney would hold Man United to ransom seems a nasty accusation to level at the forward, but there’s no escaping the striker is a bit of a problem for the Red Devils moving forward.
