Gareth Bale to Tottenham

The Secret Footballer is the pseudonym of an ex-Premier League star who has written four books.
He tweeted last night: "I'm hearing that Real Madrid are prepared to listen to offers for Gareth Bale and Tottenham have first option as part of his sale in 2013." The bold statement went down to a mixed reaction from his followers.

One wrote: "Who da thunk it? Bale leaving a bunch of losers for RM, then leave RM for a bunch of losers." Another said: "@GarethBale11 doesn't have one single reason whatsoever to come back to us - never mind 250k of them each week..." While another supposed: "Everyone will say no chance , but Spurs £75m in profit this transfer window, could easily afford a bid of £100m without breaking the bank."

Who are Tottenham Hotspur most likely to sign during the summer transfer window? Spurs agreed an £85million move to sell Bale four years ago and speculation is mounting that he could be on the move again.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho yesterday vowed to "fight with other coaches" to buy the Real superstar. United meet Madrid in the Super Cup tonight. Mourinho said: "If he's playing, well, no I wouldn't think of that possibility of signing on (Bale).

"If he is playing tomorrow, it is because he is in the coach's plans and in the club's plans and because he also has that ambition to continue in Real Madrid.

"So I haven't even thought of the possibility of signing him on our team. "If he's not in the club's plans, if what you are writing right now is true - I am not sure whether it is or not - that the arrival of another player (would) perhaps (mean) Gareth would be on his way out.

"If he is on his way out of Real Madrid, well, I'll try to be waiting for him on the other side and try to fight with other coaches that would also like to have him on his team. "But I think that if he plays, it is probably the best confirmation that they'll keep counting on him during the season."
