As part of Nike’s celebration for the Air Force 1 line, the brand opened over the weekend a special one-day pop-up location to showcase the history and evolution of the classic pair.
Designed originally by Bruce Kilgore, the sneaker has evolved into a worldwide phenomenon, and is considered one of the brand’s most recognizable silhouettes.
Initially introduced in the early ‘80s, via a Nike campaign that featured six NBA players, the shoe was first released in an OG white and silver colorway.
Since it’s introduction to the public, the Swoosh has released more than 2000 different iterations, from high to low tops, including special collaborations with clothing brands, designers, celebrities and musicians.
Now entering it’s 35th year, Nike hopes to continue the success of the coveted sneaker by recently unveiling the next generation of the AF1, the SF AF1 High, during the special one-day event.
Along with the introduction of the brand new sneaker, the one-day Nike location gave sneakerheads a full detailed look at the different iterations that have released under the Nike brand in the past 35 years.
Among the kicks displayed at the location, Nike made sure to highlight the collaborations they’ve done with hip-hop brands and artists in the past.
Showcasing the rare and limited Air Force 1 Low “Roc-A-Fella” shoe, Nelly’s Nellyville AF1 Low, Questlove’s low top Air Force sneaker, the 2008 AF1 BET Hip-Hop Awards sneaker and more, the wall display took sneakerheads down memory lane with all of the classics and memorable silhouettes.
