Tragedy as Houses, 12 stores, others razed in Tanker Explosion in Delta
A midnight tanker explosion on Thursday led to the destruction of property worth several millions of naira, including two houses and 12 stores at Ifie-Ubeji road in Warri South Council Area of Delta State.
The tanker was said to be returning from Ifie where it had gone to load Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from Pinnacle Oil and Gas Depot in the area when it veered off the road at a bad spot along Ubeji road near the Warri Refinery and went into flames.
Although there was no loss of life, it was gathered that the outbreak spread and burnt a storey-building and vehicles parked along the road.
It was also learnt that the incident led to palpable tension and residents scampered for safety as the raging fire was extending to shops and buildings located around the scene of the inferno.
The chairman of Warri South council, Mr. Mofe Edema, confirmed the incident after visiting the scene of the fire outbreak saying that quick response by men of the fire service organisations curtailed further spread of the fire and also, prevented loss of lives.
