Two Boko Haram suicide bombers killed in UNIMAID hostel attack –Army
Troops of the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Army have killed two of some Boko Haram suicide bombers who attempted to attack a students’ hostel at the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, on Sunday.
We learnt that while the two bombers were shot dead, others escaped into surrounding bushes of the university environment.
It was gathered that a NAF Agusta Light Utility helicopter had been deployed to search for the other fleeing bombers as the military enjoined the university community to be vigilant and to report suspicious persons and elements.
The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya, who confirmed the Boko Haram’s attempted attack, said one of the bombers detonated the explosives before they could gain access to the targeted hostel.
Adesanya added that the troops pursued the other bombers and shot dead one of them.
He said, “Special Forces of the Nigerian Air Force in conjunction with some Nigerian Army troops have foiled a suicide bombing attack by the Boko Haram terrorists at the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, on the night of April 8.
“The Boko Haram suicide bombers tried to gain access into the university but they were quickly detected by the Special Forces. Meanwhile, the vest on one of the suicide bombers detonated before they could gain access into the hostel, leading to a commotion. However, there was no reported fatality except for the suicide bomber, whose counterparts immediately fled.
“The NAF Special Forces and the army troops opened fire on them. The NAF Agusta Light Utility helicopter also went in pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, following which one bomber was identified and neutralised.
The NAF Agusta LUH is still searching for the other fleeing terrorists as of Monday afternoon. Members of the public, especially those around the university premises, are therefore requested to be very vigilant.”
