Fresh from her unexpected placement at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Gospel Songs chart, an in-depth interview at Dazed reveals Nicki Minaj taking new chances creatively and aiming for fresh heights with new music.
"I have to take what needs to be discussed and put it with the other organic things that no one can predict," said Minaj, hinting her anticipated album might be close to finished.
With 10 GRAMMY nominations and styles that morph, twist and flip, the rapper is using her power for creative control.
"Tomorrow, I might walk into the studio and decide that I don't like anything I've done in the last six months. Or, tomorrow I might walk in and feel like the whole album is done," she said.
"There's so much beauty in not knowing."
It's hard to know whether it's her confidence that is contagious or whether her track record of hits is what makes her convincing, but Minaj is sure her best yet is almost here.
"This era will be a billion times more epic than anything 'Anaconda' could have delivered," she said.
"I think this era will definitely be the most memorable and the most impactful of my career yet."
For many of her fans, the promise made on Kanye West's "Monster" that "first things first I'll eat your brains" has already been fulfilled. But with Nicki Minaj's changing themes, looks, collaborations, and moods, anticipation is justified that when she decides she is finished with her latest, she's going to do it again.
